MIKE SORENSEN: Reflecting on a lengthy career

Like any profession, the job had its down points — the stressful deadlines on West Coast football and basketball games, the breaking stories at inopportune times and having to miss an occasional dance recital or youth soccer game. I put up with some ill-mannered athletes and coaches and a handful of unpleasant bosses, but on the whole it was a wonderful way to make a living.

JIM BURTON: Hank Aaron’s legacy lives on

Especially in this day and age when we all seem to be at each other’s throats, looking for something to be mad at. Sadly, Hammerin’ Hank — the very definition of a baseball legend — died Friday at age 86. But his legacy lives on, like a beacon for the rest of us.

BRAD ROCK : Alabama can thank Utah

From my seat in the press box, Alabama fans appeared unconcerned when Utah scored the first touchdown of the 2009 Sugar Bowl. They were relaxed, happy, maybe a bit patronizing. Crimson Tide fans didn’t seem to sense anything unusual coming. Neither did I.
