Rookie Jared Butler has led the Utah Jazz in scoring in both preseason games this year. Butler scored 16 points in a 111-85 loss at San Antonio and then followed it up with 22 in a 111-101 setback at Dallas.
“He plays with a certain poise,” said Jazz coach Quin Snyder. “I think we were all a little fatigued at certain times. And when you’re fatigued, it shows up in parts of the possession. But I thought Jared showed the ability to make plays for himself and for others.”
The Jazz were shorthanded on the Texas trip. Bojan Bogdanovic, Rudy Gay, Rudy Gobert and Joe Ingles did not play against the Spurs or the Mavericks. Mike Conley and Donovan Mitchell rested in the latter.
Utah concludes preseason play with home games Monday and Wednesday. The Jazz host the New Orleans Pelicans before facing the defending NBA champion Milwaukee Bucks. They open the regular season on Oct. 20 at Vivint Area against the Oklahoma City Thunder.
