Mac Speedie is no longer a secret. The former South High and University of Utah standout, who went on to play professionally for the Cleveland Browns and in Canada, is officially being inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame.
One of the most towering figures in the Utah sports community died unexpectedly on Friday night. Mark Eaton, the 7-foot-4 former NBA All-Star and two-time Defensive Player of Year was killed in an apparent bicycle crash.
“Once the clock hit zero and the fans rushed the floor I didn’t realize they were going to do it and I don’t think Slim (Beaty) realized it either. And when they hoisted us, we were basking in the moment,” Wise said. “It was like ‘Is there anything more at that time?’”
Craig Smith was formally introduced as the new men’s basketball coach at the University of Utah. He’s making the move to the Utes after leading Utah State to a 74-24 mark in three seasons, leading the Aggies to the NCAA Tournament each year.
Larry Krystkowiak, the only men’s basketball coach Utah has had during its Pac-12 era, is no longer at the helm of the program. They’re one of just eight squads — joining Alaska-Anchorage, Colorado, Denver, Montana State, New Hampshire, St. Lawrence and Vermont —to have the maximum 12 qualifiers.
Better late than never. Six months late, in fact. But Weber State University head football coach Jay Hill is mighty glad that his team will still get an opportunity to play at least a portion of its canceled 2020 season in the spring — or, as it turns out, late-winter — of 2021.
Some mock drafts project the left tackle going in the later part of the first round. The consensus is that Christensen is more than likely a top-100 pick.
