GREAT SALT TAKES: Reaction to Utah letting Larry Krystkowiak go as head coach

AUSTIN FACER

It was time for a change but it was clear in Mark Harlan’s statement that he greatly appreciated what a kind and caring person Larry had always been in his time at the U. That program has had plenty of jerks and difficult personalities (I think we all know how I’m talking about) as the head basketball coach. Larry K will have a legacy as a good dude. Unfortunately, the product on the court wasn’t good enough and the firing was totally justified.”

“Always sad to see a good guy get his walking papers. However, personnel and schedule issues grew too large over recent years — making a change in direction inevitable.”

“I think the biggest thing for the Utes was just the fact they were seeing  BYU with Mark Pope and also Craig Smith (Utah State) going to the NCAA Tournament annually.”

PARKER VAN DYKE
former Runnin’ Ute, pro basketball  player

“I’m forever grateful for him and the opportunity he gave me, and all the things he taught me as well. So sad, but exciting also for a new direction for the Utes.”
