GREAT SALT TAKES: New York, New York for Zach Wilson

Each week, our friends and local sports experts weigh in on a different topic. This week the question is whether or not the New York Jets are a good landing spot for former BYU QB Zach Wilson?

AUSTIN FACER, This Is the Place Sports

“New York is a great place to make it big, if you can do the work. Zach is going to have to lift the Jets to new heights and provide a bit of flash along the way to make it in the Big Apple. I’m concerned that if he struggles on the field, his problems will be compounded by other things, namely his mother’s outspoken nature. It’ll be fascinating to watch.”

DIRK FACER, This Is The Place Sports

“As the great Frank Sinatra sang of New York, New York: “If I can make it there I’ll make it anywhere.” Although a lot of folks wished for Wilson to end up in San Francisco, his landing spot with the Jets could be accompanied by a one-way ticket to stardom.”

And from a recent "This Is the Place Sports" podcast:

JIM BURTON, former Standard-Examiner sports columnist

“I really hoped Zach Wilson would not go to the Jets because they’re just not a great organization and I stand by that. Apparently hey had a good draft. The stuff that I read gave them an A-plus and I thought that was interesting.”

ERIC JENSEN, 1280 The Zone producer

“It’s fair to have skepticism. But, it’s a new G.M. It’s a new coach. They traded real draft capital to get up and get the guy out of USC — Alijah Vera-Tucker, who is a versatile offensive lineman. they’re obviously committed to protecting Zach Wilson. They went four straight offensive players to start the draft.”
