GREAT SALT TAKES: Utah’s road to win the West

Each week, our friends and local sports experts weigh in on a different topic. This week the question is what will the Utah Jazz’s path to the NBA Finals look like?

“While the Jazz took an unexpected loss in Game 1 against Memphis, I still see them getting out of the first round quite easily. I’m really intrigued by who they’ll play next between the Clippers and the Mavericks. Both of those teams have extremely talented wing players who can score at will and that will be a tricky matchup for Utah. The lineup rotation might look completely different for Quin Snyder’s squad in the next round.”

“It won’t be easy. As evidenced by the loss in the playoff opener at home, anything is possible. The Jazz, though, have a pretty good chance of getting through the West as the field thins down. Mitchell’s ability to regain his previous form is an obvious key.

And from a recent “This Is The Place Sports” podcast:

Mike Sorensen
former Deseret News sports writer

“I’m afraid that Jazz fans might bit a little bit overconfident because of the fact that they do have the No. 1 seed. You look at the road they need to win it all and it’s unbelievable.”

Parker Van Dyke
professional basketball player

“It’s a rough West. The wild, wild West, and there’s a lot of tough opponents and the Jazz really need Donovan to take a superstar leap if they want to reach the NBA Finals. Hopefully, he’s completely healthy.”
