NFL mock draft has 6 Utah connections headed to the pros

CBSSports.com has put together a seven-round NFL mock draft. Former BYU quarterback Zach Wilson leads the local contingent as the No. 2 overall pick by the New York Jets.

Writer Chris Trapasso also included three other ex-Cougars later in the draft. Trapasso has offensive lineman Brady Christensen going to the Houston Texans in the fifth round. He ticketed wide receiver Dax Milne and defensive lineman Khyiris Tonga going in the sixth to the Cincinnati Bengals and Miami Dolphins, respectively.

A pair of Utah high school alumni are also projected to be picked. Oregon offensive lineman Penei Sewell (Desert Hills) is being tabbed fifth overall in the first round by the Cincinnati Bengals, while USC defensive lineman Jay Tufele (Bingham) is a third-round prediction for the Los Angeles Chargers.

The NFL’s annual draft is set for April 29-May 1.

1st round

No. 2 (Jets) — ZACH WILSON, BYU quarterback
TRAPASSO’S TAKE: “The Jets may think about offering a king’s ransom for Deshaun Watson, but instead they go with Wilson at No. 2 to run Mike LaFleur’s offense.”

No. 5 (Bengals) — PENEI SEWELL, Oregon offensive lineman
TRAPASSO’S TAKE: “Sewell is essentially a no-brainer here for the Bengals with two of the receivers off the board.”

3rd round

No. 98 (Chargers) — JAY TUFELE, USC defensive lineman
TRAPASSO’S TAKE: “Tufele hustles on every play and his burst/hand work combination often gets the best of interior blockers.”

5th round

No, 148 (Texans) — BRADY CHRISTENSEN, BYU offensive lineman
TRAPASSO’S TAKE: “Christensen is an older prospect and looks the part as a pass-protection specialist in the NFL.”

6th round

No. 192 (Bengals) — DAX MILNE, BYU wide receiver
TRAPASSO’S TAKE: “Another possible weapon for Joe Burrow.”

No. 207 (Dolphins) — KHYIRIS TONGA, BYU defensive lineman
TRAPASSO’S TAKE: “Tonga provides the Dolphins with an immovable piece on the interior of their defensive line.”
