RIVALRY WEEK: Media outlets offer opinions on Utah at BYU

PROVO — There are plenty of opinions ahead of Saturday’s game between the Utah Utes and BYU Cougars. A sampling of what some media outlets are saying:

COLLEGE FOOTBALL NEWS

“It’s always fun, it’s always a fight, and it’s always . . . A Utah win. At least the last nine and 10 of the last 11 have gone to the Utes going back to the thriller late in the 2009 season. BYU has the lines to hold up for stretches, but the problems will come as the game goes on. The Utah fronts will take over, Brewer will outplay Hall, and even on the road. In a rivalry battle it’ll be a great performance by the Pac-12er over the (likely) future Big 12er.”

ESPN COMPUTER MODEL

(AOL.COM) “Like he does every week, ESPN’s Bill Connelly unveiled his score predictions Wednesday morning for the upcoming weekend. Connelly uses his predictive SP+ formula, which is “an opponent- and tempo-adjusted look at the most sustainable and predictive aspects of college football: Utah 33, BYU 23.”

THEGAMEDAY.COM

“BYU faces a stiff challenge against a Utah team that is appropriately ranked in the Top 25 to start the season. The Utes return 19 out of 22 starters this season, which is a sharp contrast to last year’s inexperienced team. While Utah should give BYU a tough time, I believe that the Cougars are being overlooked in Saturday’s matchup. Prediction: BYU 31, Utah 24.”

UTEZONE.COM

“Eyes fully turned to BYU, Whittingham knows they have to play better in order to counter what the Cougars will bring. New quarterback Jaren Hall showed he was mobile, and able to move the launch points a lot during BYU’s Saturday opener against Arizona. Running back Tyler Allgeier also brings some challenges size-wise that the Utes will need to be prepared for.”

VANQUISHTHEFOE.COM

“Turnovers have plagued BYU the last 9 losses, so BYU will need to be clean there and hope the return of the Nacua brothers add a little more pop to the offense. Jaren Hall has yet to throw an interception in his career, and keeping that streak alive would be crucial for BYU’s odds. Utah is very good and BYU will need to be great to pull the upset, but maybe being at home can will the Cougars to finally break the streak.”
