PORTLAND, Ore. — Real Salt Lake’s improbable postseason run has come to an end. The Claret-and-Cobalt dropped a 2-1 decision at Portland Saturday, bringing its season to an end leaving the team one step shy of reaching the MLS Cup.
The setback followed upset playoff wins over Seattle and Kansas City that put RSL in the Western Conference finals. RSL reached postseason play with a dramatic victory at Kansas City prior to that.
In the conference finale, Felipe Mora and Santiago Moreno scored for Portland as the Timbers advanced. They’ll host Philadelphia or New York City for the championship on Dec. 11 (1 p.m., ABC).
