The annual NBA Draft is set for Thursday, July 29 (6 p.m., ABC and ESPN) at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, N.Y. The consensus overall No. 1 pick — by the Detroit Pistons — is Oklahoma State guard Cade Cunningham.
As owners of the NBA’s best record in the regular season, the Utah Jazz have the 30th and final selection in the first round.
A sampling of predictions for the Jazz:
CBS SPORTS.COM — Arizona State guard Josh Christopher (6-5, 215): “Bounce, bounce, bounce, bounce . . . B-plus ball handler . . . Tireless defender who can play as adroitly in half-court as he can in full-court attack.”
NBADRAFTJUNKIES.COM — Illinois guard Ayo Dosumnu (6-5, 194): “Dosumnu filled the stat sheet and was one of the best guards in the country this season after flirting with the NBA draft last summer. Utah has a decision to make on Mike Conley this summer so I expect them to use their 1st round pick on a guard.”
NBADRAFT.NET — Gonzaga guard Joel Ayayi (6-5, 180): “Ayayi is a tall lead guard with tremendous quickness and intriguing skills . . . He’s a solid playmaker who developed a consistent outside jumper during his career at Gonzaga . . . High basketball IQ and excellent cutter to create easy buckets for himself.”
NBADRAFTROOM.COM — Auburn forward J.T. Thor (6-9, 203): “Thor is a high level athlete with a great frame and intriguing upside. He measured with a ridiculous 7-3 1/4 wingspan at the combine.”
YAHOO! SPORTS — Texas forward Greg Brown (6-8, 206): “A super athletic combo-forward, Brown came into the season very highly regarded. He’s had a solid freshman season, but consistency is an issue. He can shoot from behind the arc, run the floor like a gazelle and he has the potential to be an elite rim protector with his 7-foot wingspan.”
